Fear vs Purpose

March 16, 2010

There is nothing like being in the right place at the right time and doing the right thing–for the right reason.  Everything “clicks” into place in such moments, but they are elusive.  I might find myself in the right place at the right time, but I chicken out when it comes to doing what I ought to do in that situation.  Or I do the right thing, like speak my mind, but for the wrong reason, like because I want to impress someone with my compassion or intelligence.

More often than I like to admit, I miss the opportunity to make it “click” because I’m afraid.  What if I’m wrong? What will my wife/kids/parents/boss think of me? What if people laugh at me?

Fear is a powerful emotion. It is the biggest obstacle between me and my purpose. If I expect to live out my purpose, I have to be prepared to push through the fear.
